World Creole Music Festival in Dominica

    Friday October 29th - Sunday 31st, Roseau, Dominica: Third Annual Dominica World Creole Festival. With appearances by Boukman Eksperyans, Ruff and Ready, First Serenade, Nasio Fontane, De De Saint Prix (Martinique), Swinging Stars (Dominica), Malavoi (Martinique), Ophelia, Shah Shah (Haiti), Diblo Dibla et Matchatcha (Zaire), Grammacks, Mifle (Guadeloupe), WCK, Exile One, Tabou Combo, Zouk All Stars and Reasons Orchestra (St. Lucia). Half-Marathon

    Sunday 12th September: Half Marathon from Gros-Islet to Castries. Organised by the St. Lucia Amateur Athletics Association.


Public poetry reading

    Tuesday 14th September: Central Library, Castries: 7.00 - 10.00 pm: St. Lucia Writers Forum holds it monthly public reading. Admission free. Come and read one or two of your poems.
     

World Dominoes Championship

    23rd-26th September, Wyndham Rose Hall, Montego Bay, Jamaica: World Championship of Dominoes. St. Lucians Peter Dalson and Francis Raphael, and Jones Joseph and Augustin Samson. Sponsor Air Jamaica offers special packages.


International Billfish Tournament

M&C Fine Arts Award

    Until 30th September: deadline for submissions of  literary work for M&C Fine Arts Award, and for performing artists' resumes of work done during the year.
    October 30th: Opening of M&C Fine Arts Awards Annual Exhibition at Castries City Hall.


Jounen Kweyol '99 and Creole Heritage Month

    Friday 1st - Monday 4th October: Folk Festival. With An Evening of Folk, a Community Theatre Production, Violin Festival and Community Festival.
    Later on in the month: Country and Western dance and competition; Creole lunch in celebration of La Magwit Flower Festival, National Creole Queen Show for over-50s (La Wenn Kweyol Sent Lisi) and Asou Skwe!
    Sunday 24th October: Jounen Kweyol celebrations in Piaye, Desruisseaux and Anse la Raye.
    Organised by Folk Research Centre, with financial support from Maggi products.
     

Babonneau Kalalou 99

    October 3rd and 4th: Babonneau Community Fair and Exhibition. Part of Kalalou '99, which also includes sporting and cultural programmes, fasion shows, senior citizens day, and Achievement Night. For more info, call Babonneau Regional Office at 450-5063.


Creole New Testament

    10th October, Castries Comprehensive School: launching of the Creole New Testament. Under the auspices of the Bible Society of ther East Caribbean, in cooperation with Wycliffe Bible Translators International and Summer Institute of  Linguistics.


La Marguerite Festival

    17th October: La Marguerite Flower Festival.


Miss Model International 1999

    November: Miss Model International 1999: international modelling competition with models from 76 countries in Africa, Europe, South America, Asia, Australia, Canada, the US and the Caribbean.


St. Lucia Promotion in USA

    The St. Lucia Tourist Board has embarked on its Island Adventure Promotion in the US market. Those purchasing the Island Adventure Package from their travel agent in the US receive benefits such as a free night on a stay of four nights or longer, discounts from certain stores and restaurant, free adventure tours, and gift vouchers. The promotion runs until November 30. Last year, the promotion resulted in a 15 percent increase in visitor arrivals during the summer months.
