Course description:
The programme of work lasts for approximately two academic years, at the end of which students sit the Cambridge 'A' Level Examinations via Charterhouse as private candidates at the Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School. An internal and external examination can be taken in-house for the Business and Technical Programmes.
Entry Requirements:
At least five (5) CXC General Proficiency Level passes (grades I, II, III) or five (5) GCE 'O' Level passes (Grades A, B, C) or a combination of both, four (4) of which must have been obtained at one sitting. The minimum passes must include English A and Mathematics and at least two (2) other subjects. Other entry requirements may be considered for applicants wishing to undertake the Business & Technical Programmes, especially for mature students. The names of two referees (or two letters of recommendation) are required. We welcome mature students whose desire it is to gain their A'Level qualifications while working. Application Forms must be submitted by the 20th August for the academic year commencing in September. Tuition fees for the various programmes vary. A payment plan can be discussed if required.
Application Procedure:
Application forms should be submitted to the registrar of Charterhouse College of Continuing Education, accompanied by an application fee of EC$25.00, certified copies of certificates or grade slips (where applicable) and a birth certificate. Fees are non-refundable. An additional fee of EC$10.00 is required for late applications.
- Term fees for the A'Level programme are EC$250.00, to be paid upon acceptance.
- Fees for the Business & Technical Programme are EC$400 per term.
- These fees do not include internal or external examination fees.
Core Courses & Subject Choices
GCE 'A' Level Programme (Two Year Programme)
Three (3) subjects may be chosen from the major subject groups (Arts, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences/Business). It is possible to select two (2) subjects within one subject group. Students cannot always be guaranteed the combination of their first choice. In addition to the A'Level courses, all applicants will be required to write a General Paper and to follow a course on Communication & Research Skills.
(1) Arts: English Literature, French, History.
(2) Natural Sciences: Mathematics, Human & Social Biology.
(3) Social Sciences/Business: Accounting, Business Management, Economics, Sociology, Psychology.
Students wishing to do the A'Level course but who have not obtained Maths or English at the GCE or CXC-level, may nevertheless be accepted on condition that they undertake to complete and pass the said subject within the first year. Similarly, should an applicant wish to study a particular subject at A'Level without having studied that same subject at the lower level, then they should seek to complete this subject on the lower level (although this is not compulsory).
All students are required to follow the General Paper Course.
General Paper:
An 'AO' subject designed to test maturity of thought and expression appropriate to sixth-form students in their second year. Students will be expected to write essays on two of the following: Historical, Social, Economic, Political and Philosophical issues; Science (including its history, philosophy, general principles and applications); Mathematics and Geographical topics; Literature and Language; Arts and Craft.

All students undertaking the certificate and diploma programme must undertake 6 credit hours of study over the two years in the subject areas of psychology and computer applications.
