St. Lucia - USA Family Day Festival
Sunday 5th September: 7th Annual Caribbean American Family Day Festival, to be held on Webster Avenue between Gun Hill Road and East 233rd Street. This festival - the brain child of St. Lucian Marlon Gill - is said to attract the largest Caribbean/American audience in NY State, at some 25,000 plus. Second only to Brooklyn's Annual West Indian Parade on eastern Parkway, which is usually the day after the Family Day Festival. Expected to appear: the Mighty Sparrow, Mikey 'Mack Daddy' Jarret, Ambelique, the A-Team Band, Exposer, Tricky, Ras Iley, Lady Guymine, Krosfyah, Invader, Rich-E-Rich, Jaunty, Gospel Vibrators, Caribbean Eagles Steel Orchestra, Breakaway Brass and King Obstinate. Other activities include mini-carnival, ethnic food, clothing and antiques market, awards ceremony for outstanding community members and dance renditions.

World Creole Music Festival in Dominica
Friday October 29th - Sunday 31st, Roseau, Dominica: third annual Dominica World Creole Festival. With appearances by Boukman Eksperyans, Ruff and Ready, First Serenade, Nasio Fontane, De De Saint Prix (Martinique), Swinging Stars (Dominica), Malavoi (Martinique), Ophelia, Shah Shah (Haiti), Diblo Dibla et Matchatcha (Zaire), Grammacks, Mifle (Guadeloupe), WCK, Exile One, Tabou Combo, Zouk All Stars and Reasons Orchestra (St. Lucia).

Long Weekend of La Woz Celebrations
August 28-30: Feast of St. Rose de Lima. Saturday 28th August, City Hall: grand seance organised by Grand Riviere La Rose group. Sunday 29th August, La Fargue Playing Field: award-giving ceremony for long-standing La Woz (La Rose) members from Choiseul: Ma Bebe and Frank Norville. Preceded by a Church Service in Choiseul. Organised by Ministry of Culture. Monday 30th August: La Rose motorcade through communities around the island. Sixteen registered groups are to participate under the theme: 'Si Nou Pas Breye Nou Kai Morte'.

Project Feedback at Waves
Thursday 2nd September, 8 p.m.: Project Feedback, the monthly production of the Factory Creative Arts Centre, at Waves. Sunday 5th September: Miss Caribbean Island Queen Contest at the National Cultural Centre. Contestants from St. Lucia, Barbados, Trinidad, St. Maarten, Grenada and Tobago. St. Lucia is represented by Avrile Gilbert, Island Teen '95 and Island Queen '98.

September 8th-12th: Furniture Showcase 99, at NDC factory shell, Union Industrial Estate. Five days of locally made furniture exhibition and demonstrations. Organised under auspices of ministry of Commerce.

St. Lucia Promotion in USA
The St. Lucia Tourist Board has embarked on its Island Adventure Promotion in the US market. Those purchasing the Island Adventure Package from their travel agent in the US receive benefits such as a free night on a stay of four nights or longer, discounts from certain stores and restaurant, free adventure tours, and gift vouchers. The promotion runs until November 30. Last year, the promotion resulted in a 15 percent increase in visitor arrivals during the summer months. . |
