Special presentation by the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States in an attempt to forge new and continuing links for trade, services, tourism and investment initiatives. Consular section of the US Embassy in Barbados suspends Immigrant Visa services from 22nd December 1999 until 17th January 2000. Also suspends Non-Immigrant (visitor) visa services on 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 and 31st of December and on 3 and 4th of January 2000. Consulate remains open for American citizens throughout the Y2K period as usual.

Saturday 19th February, 2000: Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Fundraiser Ball. Bringing together South Florida Caribbean community, CTO Allied Members, government officials, chapter members and friends at the Hyatt Hotel in downtown Miami. Featuring music from the Caribbean, delicious cuisine and a raffle/silent auction with a variety of items including Caribbean hotel stays and airfare, jewelry and Caribbean artwork.
Year 2000 essay competition for students aged 15-18. Organised by Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. $15,000 in prizes for schools and individual participants. Topic: "Even as they seek enforcement of the WTO ruling which could adversely affect the region's banana industry, the US is actively courting our assistance in their fight against drug trafficking and money laundering. What do you think our position should be?" Deadline for submission: 12th May, 2000.
Carifesta II, the seventh Caribbean Festival of Arts, in August 2000 will be held in St. Kitts & Nevis. All countries "washed by the Caribbean Sea" are invited to participate. Sponsored by UNESCO. |
