Musical Concert

    Friday 10th December: Secondary Schools Orchestra musical concert at the National Cultural Centre. Featuring more than sixty musicians to tell the story of music. Fundraising activity to allow the orchestra to travel to Spain in 2000, for World Youth Music Festival.


Festival of Lights

    Sunday 12th December: 1999 National Festival of Lights, on the grounds of the Good Shepherd Church, Babonneau. Starting at 6:00 pm. Theme: 'Peace and Unity: Embracing the New Century'. Registration: between 4:00 and 6:00 pm at the Multi-Purpose Centre.


Leprosy Awareness month

    January 200: Leprosy Awareness Month. Organised by the World Health Organisation and the St. Lucia ministry of Health.


End of term concert

    Sunday 12th December, 4:00 pm, National Cultural Centre: end of term student concert by the School of Music. All seats $5.00.


Vladimir Ashkenazy in concert.

    Wednesday 9th February: benefit piano recital by Vladimir Ashkenazy. With music by Schumann, Rachmaninov and Rave. Organised by the School of Music.


National Day activities in Micoud

    National Day Organizing Committee of Micoud: week of celebrations. Thursday 9th December: Christmas Carol Concert, 6:30 pm. Featuring Emerald Steel Orchestra and Cecilian Rays.

    Sunday 12th December: Musical Festival, 4:00 pm: Castries Secondary Schools Concert Band and Vieux Fort Comprehensive School's Concert Band, and guest appearances by Calypsonians Invader, Maguilla, Fonty, Pele and Malika.

    Monday 13th December: Greasy Pole and Fun sporting event. Includes crab racing, pepper-in-bottle competition and tug-o-war. Followed by a motorcade through the village and, at 6:30 pm, fireworks.

Quadrille Festival

    28th November: Helen Folk Dancers' annual Quadrille Festival under the theme 'Preserving our Cultural Heritage'. Venue: Castries Comprehensive School, from 3:00 pm onwards. Admission $5.00
    5th December: Junior Helen Folk Dancers perform at the Monchy Combined School.


School of Music concerts

    Sunday 28th November, 6:30 pm: School of Music's Carlos Mymns Community Orchestra free Sunday concerts. Venue: Monchy Combined School.
    Sunday 5th December, 6:30 pm: similar concert at Dennery Multi-Purpose Centre in Dennery.


St. Jude's Santa Claus parade

    5th December, from 2:00 pm onwards: Santa Claus Parade organised by The Friends of St. Jude Hospital. Fund-raising activity to buy a foetal monitoring machine. Donations can also be made into account # 416093071 at the NCB in Vieux Fort.


Miami Conference

    7th-10th December, Miami Conference. Special presentation by the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States in an attempt to forge new and continuing links for trade, services, tourism and investment initiatives. Year for the Culture of Peace

    Friday 10th December, 10:00 am: official launching of International Year for the Culture of Peace 2000 at Odyssey St. Lucia. Guest speaker Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony, also speaking Minister Mario Michel.


AGM Coconut Growers

    Saturday 11th December, 10:00 am: Annual General Meeting St. Lucia Coconut Growers Association. Venue: Soufriere Infant School. Members are advised to bring along their product license with their membership account number.


Regional credit union conference in St. Lucia

    10th-11th December: regional conference of credit union leaders. Expected to attract over fifty credit union marketing and financial specialists from the Caribbean. To be held in St. Lucia.

    December 1999, and again in January 2000: Pappyshow Park 2000 - long-awaited political satire by members of The Factory.


US Consulate to partly close over Y2K period

    Consular section of the US Embassy in Barbados suspends Immigrant Visa services from 22nd December 1999 until 17th January 2000. Also suspends Non-Immigrant (visitor) visa services on 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 and 31st of December and on 3 and 4th of January 2000. Consulate remains open for American citizens throughout the Y2K period as usual.
    New is also that the US Consulate now closes every last working day of each month as far as Immigrant and non-Immigrant (visitors) visas are concerned.


Jamaica Jazz Festival

    20th-23rd January 2000: Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival, at James Bond Beach in Oracabessa, and Jamaica Grande Hotel at Ocho Rios. Featuring Gladys Knight, Mary J. Blige, Kool & The Gang, Kenny G and Al Jarreau.


Millennium Regatta 2000

    21st-23rd January 2000: Seventh annual Regatta, organised by St. Lucia Sailing Club.


Ste Lisi Par Excellence Awards

    6 February 2000: Ste Lisi Par Excellence Awards ceremony at National Cultural Centre.


CTO Fundraiser Ball in Miami

    Saturday 19th February, 2000: Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Fundraiser Ball. Bringing together South Florida Caribbean community, CTO Allied Members, government officials, chapter members and friends at the Hyatt Hotel in downtown Miami. Featuring music from the Caribbean, delicious cuisine and a raffle/silent auction with a variety of items including Caribbean hotel stays and airfare, jewelry and Caribbean artwork.


Year 2000 Essay Competition

    Year 2000 essay competition for students aged 15-18. Organised by Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. $15,000 in prizes for schools and individual participants. Topic: "Even as they seek enforcement of the WTO ruling which could adversely affect the region's banana industry, the US is actively courting our assistance in their fight against drug trafficking and money laundering. What do you think our position should be?" Deadline for submission: 12th May, 2000.


Carifesta II: Caribbean Festival of Arts 2000

    Carifesta II, the seventh Caribbean Festival of Arts, in August 2000 will be held in St. Kitts & Nevis. All countries "washed by the Caribbean Sea" are invited to participate. Sponsored by UNESCO.
