Magical Circus

    Opening on Friday 11th February: The Magical Circus. After breaking box-office records in Trinidad, Grenada and Barbados now at the Beach Facilities in Vigie, Castries. With lions and tigers, the flying trapeze, magicians, clowns, acrobats, contortionists, the pendulum, globe of death and the high wire. At Vigie for an extended run.

Sir Ira Simmons Calypso

    Saturday 12th February, 4:00 pm: Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School Calypso A new Musical Peace. With the best of Junior Calypsonians including Lady Strong, the reigning National Secondary School Monarch. Guest artist: Bachelor, also Steel Band music, MJ's Response with Brass. Venue: SISSS Grounds. Tickets $7.00 advance, $10.00 at gate.


Free bone density testing

    14-16th February: Free health screening at Tapion Hospital: blood pressure, blood sugar, eye testing, cholesterol and bone density testing. From 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.


21st Independence Concert

    Friday 18th February, National Cultural Centre, 7:30 pm: Grand 21st Anniversary Independence Concert. Organised by the Independence 2000 Celebrations Committee. Spanning the Musical Spectrum, with folk, gospel, steel band, choral, calypso, reggea, orchestral, jazz and pop performances. Admission $10.00 adults, $5.00 children.


Athletics Independence Celebrations

    Amateur Athletics Association Independence activities:
    Sunday 20th February: 10 km run, from Rex St. Lucian to government car park on Castries Waterfront. Start at 4:00 pm.

    Sunday 27th February: Independence CHampionships at Mindoo Philip Park. Registration at Olympic House, weekdays from 9:30 am - 3:00 pm.


Arts and Crafts Exposition

    Until 23rd February: exhibition of arts and craft work by Livity Art Studios at the Alliance Francaise, Pt. Seraphine. On display are pottery, basketry and wood carvings.


Charity Golf Tournament

    Saturday 26th February: 6th Annual Independence Charity Golf Tournament at St. Lucia Golf & Country Club at Cap Estate. First stroke to be played by prime minister Dr. Kenny Anthony.


Nobel Laureates Exhibition

    8th-12th February: Walcott/Lewis exhibition in Soufriere.
    15th-19th February: Walcott/Lewis exhibition in Vieux Fort.


Folk Research Centre activities

CTO Fundraiser Ball in Miami

    Saturday 19th February, 2000: Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Fundraiser Ball. Bringing together South Florida Caribbean community, CTO Allied Members, government officials, chapter members and friends at the Hyatt Hotel in downtown Miami. Featuring music from the Caribbean, delicious cuisine and a raffle/silent auction with a variety of items including Caribbean hotel stays and airfare, jewelry and Caribbean artwork.


Canadian Food & Beverage Showcase in Barbados

    21st and 22nd February, Sherbourne Conference Centre, Barabdos: 3rd Annual Canadian Food and Beverage Showcase. International Francophonie Day

    Monday 20th March: International Francophonie Day. Activities in St. Lucia start Thursday 16th March. On the programme are a Francophonie breakfast, schools concert, evening of traditional (Creole) story-telling, Francophonie lunch, film broadcast and a sub-regional song contest among the Alliance Francaises of the OECS. Coordinated by the National Correspondence for the Francophonie, Mrs. Shery Alexander-Heinis.

Year 2000 Essay Competition

    Year 2000 essay competition for students aged 15-18. Organised by Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. $15,000 in prizes for schools and individual participants. Topic: "Even as they seek enforcement of the WTO ruling which could adversely affect the region's banana industry, the US is actively courting our assistance in their fight against drug trafficking and money laundering. What do you think our position should be?" Deadline for submission: 12th May, 2000.


Carifesta II: Caribbean Festival of Arts 2000

    Carifesta II, the seventh Caribbean Festival of Arts, in August 2000 will be held in St. Kitts & Nevis. All countries "washed by the Caribbean Sea" are invited to participate. Sponsored by UNESCO.
