St. Lucia in Concert - Weekly Folk Party

Paintings for Golden Hope
Tuesday 9th till Saturday 13th May, Castries City Hall: One Man Art Exhibition by Raphael Philip of Gros Islet. Fifty paintings, oil and acrylic, for sale at EC$1,000 each. Half of the proceeds will go towards the Golden Hope mental hospital Fund.

10th May, Hyatt Regency Hotel: St. Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association's second annual celebrity charity event - part of the Jazz Festival programme. Year 2000 essay competition for students aged 15-18. Organised by Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. $15,000 in prizes for schools and individual participants. Topic: "Even as they seek enforcement of the WTO ruling which could adversely affect the region's banana industry, the US is actively courting our assistance in their fight against drug trafficking and money laundering. What do you think our position should be?" Deadline for submission: 12th May, 2000.

On the agenda are the Board of Directors' report, Auditors' report and appointment of auditors and authorization of their fees. Shareholders must present a picture ID to be admitted to, and participate in, the meeting.
Free Spanish classes
Commencement of Free Spanish classes at Venezuelan Institute for Culture and Co-operation, Gardina Avenue, Sans Soucis. Classes for Basic, Intermediate, Advanced and Conversation levels, twice a week from Monday to Thursday. Registration for persons who are already students: Monday 17th to Thursday 20th May. Antilles Eucharistic Congress Jubilee 2000
Wednesday 17 - Sunday 21st May: Antilles Eucharistic Congress Jubilee 2000. Expected to bring some 20,000 faithfuls from around the world to St. Lucia. On the programme are church services throughout the parishes, Sunday 21st: Mass Assembly at Mindoo Philip Park, from 8am onwards. Feature address by Cardinal Castillo Lara. Friday 19th, National Cultural Centre: Jamaican songwriter and priest Fr. Richard Holung in concert.

International Dance Day
Saturday 20th May: International Dance Day celebration with the performance of five original pieces by The Dance Theatre Company - a new group consisting of ten dancers drawn from various dance groups across St. Lucia. Venue: Castries Comprehensive School Auditorium, start at 7:30 pm.

21-23rd May: simultaneous trans-island video/audio link-up between St. Lucia, Martinique and Dominica: 'Duty of Remembrance/Trans-Islands'. Eighteen hours of advanced video conferencing, regional TV, radio and internet link-up.
Marriage Enrichment Seminar
Until - 25th May, every Monday and Thursday for six weeks: Marriage Enrichment Seminar, for couples who have been married five years or less and who wish to improve their marriage relationship. Paradise Regained in Montserrat
8-23rd July: Paradise Regained Festival - two week-festival in Montserrat for Caribbean residents and neighbours of Montserrat in an effort to revitalise the tourism industry. With a food fair, theatrical productions, beach picnics, masquerades, concerts, gala reception, variety shows, a Millennium Ball, celebrity cookout, lots of Irish music, dance and masquerades and special activities for children (beach games, old time games, art and dance lessons, poetry reading, story telling and face painting).
