Carnival & Calypso 2001

    Sunday 1st July: Calypso semi-finals.
    Friday 6th July: Carnival Queen Show
    Saturday 7th July: Soca Monarch Finals.
    Monday 9th July: Carnival Street Party.
    Wednesday 11th July: St. Lucia Brass Festival (organised by Funatix Band).
    Friday 13th July: Panorama.
    Saturday 14th July: Calypso Monarch Finals.
    Sunday 15th July: Junior Carnival and King and Queen of the Bands.
    Monday 16th July: Jour Ouvert, followed by the carnival pageant and judging of the bands. Parade of the Bands starts at 1:00 pm.
    28th July: official prize-giving ceremony for all carnival activities.

Human Rights lecture

    Tuesday 3rd July: lecture organised by the National Centre for Legal Aid. Guest speaker Ferguson John, on 'Human Rights and Representation'. Venue: Castries Central Library.

Cap Estate residents

    Wednesday 4th July, 6:00 pm: Cap Estate Residents meeting where Cap Estate Ltd. explains the 'change of land use proposals'. DCA officials will be in attendance. Venue: Club House.

School of Music scholarship audition

    Saturday 7th July, from 2:00 pm: scholarship auditions at St Lucia School of Music for students up to age 18. Completed forms and letters of recommendations must be returned to the school by 4th of July. Call: 452-2473.

AGM for engineers

    Saturday 7th July: annual general meeting of the Association of Professional Engineers. Venue: Pointe Seraphine, 3:00 pm. Guest speaker: Minister of Communications and Works, Calixte George.

Historical Society meets

    Wednesday 11th July: annual general meeting of the St Lucia Archaeological and Historical Society. Venue: Caribbees Hotel, Castries, from 7:00 pm.

Carnival paintings at Hyatt

    8-21 July: Carnival exhibition at the West India Art Company at the Hyatt Regency hotel. With a series of paintings by American Peace Corps volunteer Jonathan Gladding, entitled 'Carnival and St. Lucia Culture'. Open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday.

School of Music Summer Programme

    Wednesday 18th July: 'More time for Music', summer camp for infant school children. Other programmes include:
    1-14 August: 'More time for Music' for primary school children 1-14 August: Children's Choir
    15-28 August: Drumming and Pan workshop
    15-28 August: Chamber Music workshop
    22-28 August: Guitar and Voice workshop.

Grande Riviere Junior Club Summer Programme

    23rd July - 17th August: Grande Riviere Junior Club's summer programme, held at the Vide Bouteille Secondary School. For children aged 2-15.
    Learning with video aids, reading, writing, maths skills, computer programme for teenagers, sports, physical training, fun walk, and weekly educational tours to heritage sites. Daily snacks provided. Call 451-3094, or 450-2045.

Commonwealth Sports Awards

    17th October: 22nd Annual Commonwealth Sports Awards Ceremony, being held at the Royal St. Lucian Hotel in Rodney Bay, St. Lucia. With hundreds of international journalists and special guests, including Olympic boxing champ Audley Harrison, West Indies cricket luminaries Courtney Walsh, Sir Vivian Richards and Sir Garfield Sobers, Barbadian track star Obadele Thompson and Vincentian netballer Skiddy Francis-Crick.

Arthritis and Lupus Association

    Every second Thursday of the month, from 5:00 pm onwards: meetings of the St. Lucia Arthritis and Lupus Association. Venue: Blind Welfare Association, Sans Soucis, Castries.
