December Theatre Season

    10 December: Roddy Walcott's 'Papa Diable - the Devil at Christmas' by the Folk Research Centre's Folk Theatre Production. Directed by Ellen Camps, with Cephas Branford, Larry Bain, Travis Bain, Gary Burte and Dane Jacobs.
    23rd December: Che Campeche at the National Cultural Centre with Kweyol theatre.

Human Rights Day

    10 December: Human Rights Day. Events organised by parliamentary commissioner Lawrance Laurent, with small and large churches.

AGM Historical Society

    Monday 11 December, 5 pm: 46th annual general meeting of the St. Lucia Archaeological and Historical Society. Venue: Caribbees Hotel, La Pansee Road, Castries.

Festival of Lights/National Day

    Wednesday 13 December: Festival of Lights and Renewal/National Day celebrations. Jour Ouvert at 4 am in Castries, Gros Islet, Soufriere and Vieux Fort, followed by church services.
    Also: 2 pm, Castries National Cultural Centre: Christmas Music Festival.
    Also: Faux-a-Chaux Day: 'A celebration with a Difference'.
    Also: National Day Cycling Championship along the Castries City Circuit, from 1:00 pm onwards.
    Also: Folk Festival at Fond d'Or Nature and Historical Park, Mabouya Valley, from 11:00 am, with the Dennery La Marguerite Group, Pie Banana Troupe, Derniere River Drama Group, La Caye Limbo and Fire Eating Group and several others activities.

Two plays by Lighthouse Theatre

    14 till 17 December, every night: two one-acters of the Lighthouse Theatre at Tapion. Director: Kendel Hippolyte. Plays are: 'Manny and Bella' (by Errol Hill) and 'Waiting' (by Peter Laurie).

African exhibition at Alliance Francaise

    14-21 December, Alliance Francaise at the Pyramid at Pointe Seraphine: exhibition of cloth, clothing, home decorations, masks and stools from Ghana and chairs from Cameroon.

Christmas Song Competition

    Friday 15 December: Christmas Song Competition 2000, National Cultural Centre. All proceeds for St. Lucia Cancer Society and Diabetic and Hypertensive Association.

Teen Art Festival

    16 December: Teen Art Festival 2000. Venue: Castries City Hall.

Christmas Concerts

    Saturday 16th December, St. Joseph's Convent: St. Lucia School of Music's Christmas Concert. Featuring School of Music ensembles and soloists in a Caribbean Christmas mood.

Handel's 'Messiah' at the Basilica

    Sunday 17 December, Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Castries: Bel Canto and St. Lucia School of Music Chamber Orchestra play Handel's 'Messiah'. No admission charge, a collection will be taken. Starts at 7:30 pm. With Rosie Mathurin, soprano; Jennifer Gaston, alto; Hansil Jules, tenor; Linus Deterville, bass.

Christmas movie

    Monday 18 December: Christmas movie for children at the Alliance Francaise, Pyramid, Pointe Seraphine.

Charity Auction

    26 December: St. Lucia Annual Charity Auction. Organised by LeSport. Proceeds for new shelter for victims of domestic violence.

Barbados Jazz Festival 2001

    9-14th January 2001: Barbados Jazz Festival. With performances by Oleta Adams, Dave Koz, Dan Siegel, Keffery Osborne, David Benoit, Brenda Russel, Earl Klugh, Chucho Valdes, Irakere and Chaka Khan.

Sailing Regatta

    19-21 January 2001: St. Lucia Regatta. Organised by the St. Lucia Sailing Club. Proceeds for the Children's Home and Child Development and Guidance Centre.

Ste. Lisi Par Excellence awards ceremony

    Saturday 3rd February: 2001 Ste. Lisi Par Excellence Awards ceremony. Organised by the Ministry of Tourism, St. Lucia Tourist Board and the St. Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association.

Jazz Festival 2001

    4th-13th May 2001: St. Lucia Jazz Festival 2001.

Herbal Medicines symposium
