SLBC shareholders' meeting continued

    Monday 15th May, 10am, National Cultural Centre, Castries: continuation of the St. Lucia Banana Corporation shareholders' meeting. On the agenda are the Board of Directors' report, Auditors' report and appointment of auditors and authorization of their fees. Shareholders must present a picture ID to be admitted to, and participate in, the meeting.

'Jesus of Ethiopia' at Derek Walcott theatre

    Saturday 20, Sunday 21st May: 'Jesus of Ethiopia' - play performed by Club St. Lucia Staff Association. Venue: Derek Walcott Theatre.

Folk Theatre Workshops in Vieux Fort

    22nd May - 3rd June: Folk Theatre Workshops in Vieux Fort. Organised by Folk Research Centre, facilitated by Ellen O'Malley-Camps.

Free Spanish classes

    Commencement of Free Spanish classes at Venezuelan Institute for Culture and Co-operation, Gardina Avenue, Sans Soucis. Classes for Basic, Intermediate, Advanced and Conversation levels, twice a week from Monday to Thursday. Registration for persons who are already students: Monday 17th to Thursday 20th May. Registration for new students: Tuesday 25th - Friday 28th May. Please register between 1:00 pm and 7:30 pm.

Antilles Eucharistic Congress Jubilee 2000

    Wednesday 17 - Sunday 21st May: Antilles Eucharistic Congress Jubilee 2000. Expected to bring some 20,000 faithfuls from around the world to St. Lucia. On the programme are church services throughout the parishes, Sunday 21st: Mass Assembly at Mindoo Philip Park, from 8am onwards. Feature address by Cardinal Castillo Lara. Friday 19th, National Cultural Centre: Jamaican songwriter and priest Fr. Richard Holung in concert.

Calypso season 2000

    Friday 19th May: opening Calypso season 2000. With five competing Calypso tents. Soca Monarch Finals to be held on Friday 7th July at the Marchand Grounds.

International Dance Day

    Saturday 20th May: International Dance Day celebration with the performance of five original pieces by The Dance Theatre Company - a new group consisting of ten dancers drawn from various dance groups across St. Lucia. Venue: Castries Comprehensive School Auditorium, start at 7:30 pm.

Vieux Fort Carnival activities

    Weekend of 20-21st May: launch of Vieux Fort Carnival.
    Saturday 10th June: Vieux Fort Queen Show.
    Saturday 8th July: Vieux Fort Junior Pageant.
    Sunday 9th July: Vieux Fort T-Shirt Night Mass.
    Sunday 16th July: Vieux Fort J'Ouvert and Costume Parade.

French Creole trans-island link-up

    21-23rd May: simultaneous trans-island video/audio link-up between St. Lucia, Martinique and Dominica: 'Duty of Remembrance/Trans-Islands'. Eighteen hours of advanced video conferencing, regional TV, radio and internet link-up.

AGM St. Lucia Co-operative Bank

    Tuesday 23rd May, National Cultural Centre, from 4:30 pm: 62nd annual general meeting of St. Lucia Co-operative Bank.

Marriage Enrichment Seminar

    Until - 25th May, every Monday and Thursday for six weeks: Marriage Enrichment Seminar, for couples who have been married five years or less and who wish to improve their marriage relationship. Sponsored by the Family Life Ministries Department of St. Lucia Mission of 7th Day Adventists. Venue: Maranatha Seventh-Day Adventist Church, corner of Lanse Road and Vide Bouteille Road.

Caribbean Studies conference

    Monday 29th May - Friday 3rd June: 25th annual conference of Caribbean Studies Association. Venue: Hyatt Regency Hotel. Brings together some 500 scholars on topics pertaining to the Caribbean and its people. Theme this year: 'The Caribbean on the move: confidently into the 21st century'. Local organising committee: John Robert Lee and Matthew Roberts.

Fashion Awareness Week

    27th May - 2nd June: Fashion Awareness Week. With exhibitions and fashion shows to promote the local fashion industry. Early childhood educators meeting

    Monday 5th June, annual general meeting of National Association of Early Childhood Educators. Venue: National Cultural Centre, from 10:00 am.

Expo Caribe 2000

    18th-25th June: Expo Caribe 2000 in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. Please contact the Ministry of Commerce, tel. 452-1706 or 452-1590.

Dennery Fish Festival

    June 18 - July 2: third annual Dennery Fish Festival. Expected to bring a number of Barbadian fisherfolk to the east-coast town.

Gospelypso Festival

    8th July, Castries Comprehensive School Auditorium: Gospelypso Festival. Preliminaries of the Gospel Calypso contest start after 15th May. Live CD will be produced of night of the finals.

Paradise Regained in Montserrat

    8-23rd July: Paradise Regained Festival - two week-festival in Montserrat for Caribbean residents and neighbours of Montserrat in an effort to revitalise the tourism industry. With a food fair, theatrical productions, beach picnics, masquerades, concerts, gala reception, variety shows, a Millennium Ball, celebrity cookout, lots of Irish music, dance and masquerades and special activities for children (beach games, old time games, art and dance lessons, poetry reading, story telling and face painting).
