St. Lucia in Concert - Weekly Folk Party

    Every Thursday evening at 7:00 pm: 'St. Lucia in Concert - A Folk Party', organised by the Folk Research Centre at Indies Nightclub. An avenue for entertainment and education for locals and visitors. With a cast of seasoned performers including Keton's Violin Band, the Charmalion Dancers, Dezagwyab drummers and all-female steel pan band Allegro Pan Groove. Includes a dinner of local delicacies (stuffed flying fish, pepper pot chicken, Creole rice, yam croquettes, plantain, etc). Tickets available from Folk Research Centre, please call: 453-1477.

Marriage Enrichment Seminar

    17th April - 25th May, every Monday and Thursday for six weeks: Marriage Enrichment Seminar, for couples who have been married five years or less and who wish to improve their marriage relationship. Sponsored by the Family Life Ministries Department of St. Lucia Mission of 7th Day Adventists. Venue: Maranatha Seventh-Day Adventist Church, corner of Lanse Road and Vide Bouteille Road.


Thee Blood: School of Ballet

    Saturday 22nd, Sunday 23rd April, 7:00 pm, National Cultural Centre, Castries. Thee Blood, a grand theatrical production by the St. Lucia School of Ballet & Modern Dance. With a cast of over 180 students, both junior and senior.


Queen of Queens Show postponed

    The Queen of Queens Show that was planned for Monday 24th April has been postponed due to the untimely death of Ms. Regina Elwin - an unsung heroine of Carnival Queens over the years.


French Club for children

    Easter holidays: The Alliance Francaise organises a French Club. Every morning from 9:00 - 11:30 am, for children from 7 to 12 years. After an initiation class of one hour in the French language, children can choose from: internet, CDROM, movie showing, singing or beach party. Cost: $80.00. For more info, call 452-6602.


National Scrabble Competition

    24th April (Easter Monday): National Scrabble Competition at Sandals Halcyon, from 10:00 am. Great prizes to be won. Registration fee $25.00, lunch and drinks provided.     Monday 24th April: Easter Bonnet Parade and Treasure Hunt. Organised by St. Joseph's Convent Past Pupils' Association. Takes place at the St. Joseph's Convent School Grounds from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Tickets $10.00, eats and drinks on sale.


April Youth Month

    April: Youth Month under the theme: 'Youth - Custodians of our Vision'.
    24th April: special family day;
    28th April: Youth parliament, at the Chamber;
    30th April: Youth rally to bring together youth from all around the island to share ideas and showcase their talents at the Vigie Complex.

    24th-30th April: Jamaica Carnival. With Krosfyah, Square One, Atlantik and other top Caribbean bands.


Construction Trade Fair in Havana

    25th-28th April: Harvey Millar Training Workshops, organised by the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture. Contact the Chamber secretariat for more info.


FRC moves South

    Friday 28th, Saturday 29th April: Folk Research Centre presents its work to people in Vieux Fort and environs. Activities include tours of exhibits, video presentations, school visits, cultural presentations and discussions on community life covering topics such as the American base, natural disasters, Indian traditions, story telling and a visit to one of the Indian communities.

Cancer Walk for Life 2000

    Sunday 30th April: Cancer Walk for Life 2000. A walk with a difference. From Vigie Playing field to Pigeon Point. Prizes and music, DJ on a truck. All proceeds go towards educational and support programmes of the St. Lucia Cancer Society. Registration from Wednesday 19th April at the Society's office on Coral Street, Castries.


2000 Canadian Fine Food Show

    April 30 - 2nd May: 2000 Canadian Fine Food Show, Ontario, Canada. This year special attention for Ethnic Foods. Canada's national show for speciality retail and food service trade. Free Spanish classes

    Tuesday 2nd May: commencement of Free Spanish classes at Venezuelan Institute for Culture and Co-operation, Gardina Avenue, Sans Soucis. Classes for Basic, Intermediate, Advanced and Conversation levels, twice a week from Monday to Thursday. Registration for persons who are already students: Monday 17th to Thursday 20th May. Registration for new students: Tuesday 25th - Friday 28th May. Please register between 1:00 pm and 7:30 pm.


Year 2000 Essay Competition

    Year 2000 essay competition for students aged 15-18. Organised by Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. $15,000 in prizes for schools and individual participants. Topic: "Even as they seek enforcement of the WTO ruling which could adversely affect the region's banana industry, the US is actively courting our assistance in their fight against drug trafficking and money laundering. What do you think our position should be?" Deadline for submission: 12th May, 2000.

Preliminaries to Miss Commonwealth Caribbean

    Friday 5th May, National Cultural Centre: preliminary show to select St. Lucian candidate for Miss Commonwealth Caribbean Pageant. With eight participants. Finale of Miss Commonwealth Caribbean Pageant, involving candidates representing all seventeen countries, to be held in St. Lucia on 25th August.


Calypso season 2000

    Friday 19th May: opening Calypso season 2000. With five competing Calypso tents. Soca Monarch Finals to be held on Friday 7th July at the Marchand Grounds.


French Creole trans-island link-up

    21-23rd May: simultaneous trans-island video/audio link-up between St. Lucia, Martinique and Dominica: 'Duty of Remembrance/Trans-Islands'. Eighteen hours of advanced video conferencing, regional TV, radio and internet link-up.


Caribbean Studies conference

    Monday 29th May - Friday 3rd June: 25th annual conference of Caribbean Studies Association. Venue: Hyatt Regency Hotel. Brings together some 500 scholars on topics pertaining to the Caribbean and its people. Theme this year: 'The Caribbean on the move: confidently into the 21st century'. Local organising committee: John Robert Lee and Matthew Roberts.

Carifesta II: Caribbean Festival of Arts 2000

    Carifesta II, the seventh Caribbean Festival of Arts, in August 2000 will be held in St. Kitts & Nevis. All countries "washed by the Caribbean Sea" are invited to participate. Sponsored by UNESCO.
