Registering all Canadians

    The Canadian High Commission in Barabdos is conducting a registration drive and invites all Canadian citizens residing in St. Lucia to register. Registration cards may be obtained from the Canadian High Commission, PO Box 404, Bishop's Court Hill, St. Michael, Barbados, Tel. (246) 429-3550 or the local Canadian warden, Jim Batterton, tel (758) 456-2105 or Brian Willet, tel. (758) 456-2104 or 453-0216.
    Information on the regustration cards is governed by provisions of the Privacy Act and accordingly may not be divulged to third parties except in emergiencies (e.g. natural disasters).

    Wednesday 21 February: Miss Central Castries pageant.

Historical lecture

    Wednesday 21 February, 5:30 pm: lecture by Dr Carola Wala on 'The Art and history of exhibition'. Organised by the St. Lucia Archaeological and Historical Society. Venue: Alliance Francaise, Pointe Seraphine.

10K run

    Thursday 22 February: 10km run organised by the St. Lucia Athletics Association. Start at 4:00 pm at the Royal St. Lucian Hotel at Rodney Bay, ends at Government Buildings, Waterfront, Castries. For registration and info, call: 452-1272 or visit Olympic House.

Independence Day

    Thursday 22 February: Independence Day. Parade at Mindoo Phillip Park at 7:30 am, followed by Ecumenical service at Vigie Sports Complex. Service organised by St. Lucia Christian Council. Evening: National Gospel Concert at Derek Walcott Square. This year's theme: 'Respect, Tolerance and Togetherness'.

Two plays at Lighthouse Theatre

    Friday 23 February: 'Strictly Matrimony', play by Errol Hill, and 'The Marriage' by Anton Chekov. Both plays produced by Kendall Hippolyte, 'The Marriage' is directed by 24-year-old Richard Ambroise. Venue: The Lighthouse Theatre.

Miss West Indies Pageant

    Monday 26 February: Miss West Indies Pageant. With St. Lucia's candidate, Queen of Peace, Sherydan Carla Eleuthere from Babonneau.

Poverty Meal

    Sunday 11 March, 12 noon - 2:30 pm: annual Poverty Meal for Marian Home for the Elderly. Under patronage of Governor General Dame Pearlette Louisy. Venue: The guest house villa Santa Maria, Mount of Prayer, Coubaril, Castries. $50 per person: 1 bowl soup, 1 roll, water.

Motor Treasure Hunt

    18 March: Charity Motor Treasure Hunt. Organised by the Rotary Club of St. Lucia. Competitive, navigational, automotive fun event held on public roads in compliance with prevailing traffic laws, giving particpants the opportunity to learn and experience more about the culture, history, environment and touristic attributes of St. Lucia.

Festival of Comedy

    Saturday 31 March: Festival of Comedy. Venue: Piegon Island.

Funatix launches

    1st May: Launching of carnival band 'Funatix' at Pigeon Point. With Edwin Yearwood and Alison Hinds. Further launchings in New York (26 May) and Martinique (9th June). 26th May: motorcade around the island, with costumes on display.

    4th-13th May 2001: St. Lucia Jazz Festival 2001.

    May 7, 8 and 9, the Great House: Acoustic Alchemy.
    May10, Rodney Bay: Carmen Lundy, Horizon and Taj Mahal.

    May 11, Rodney Bay: trumpet player Clarke Terry and jazz pianist Randy Weston
    May 12, Pigeon Island: R&B musician Carl Thomas, Jill Scott, Eric Benet and Miriam Makeba.
    May 13, Pigeon Island: Luther Vandross, Paco Chalery, Malcolm Jamal Warner and his band Miles Long, and the Cuban band Havana Casino.
