Carnival Countdown

  • Panorama: July 15, 7pm, Marchand Grounds. Best St. Lucian steelbands competition.
  • Queen Show: 16 July, 8pm, National Cultural Centre.
  • Calypso Monarch Finals: 17 July, 8pm, Marchand Grounds.
  • Junior Carnival: 18 July, 11am - 6pm, Marchand Grounds.
  • King & Queen of the Bands: 18 July, 7 pm, Marchand Grounds. Jour Ouvert.
  • Jour Ouvert: July 19. Early morning revelry to the sounds of pan and party bands. Pan from 4am - 6am, party bands from 6am - 9am.
  • Pageant Show: July 19, 11am. The pageant of bands through the streets of Castries, making their way to the Marchand Grounds for presentation before the judges.
  • Parade of Bands - July 20, 1pm - 10pm. announcement of prizes and end of street jump up.

Gros Islet Day Street Fair

    Weekend of July 30 - August 2: Gros Islet Day Street Fair, 'Towards a shared sense of Community'. Activities are: road race, domino competition, J'ouvert, musical entertainment for the traditional street fair, barbecue sauce competition, football and netball events and a treat for 100 underprivileged children.

British Immigration Officer to visit St. Lucia

    A British immigration and visa officer will be visiting St. Lucia from July 21 to 23 to meet with St. Lucians wishing to travel to the United Kingdom. St. Lucian citizens wishing to settle in the UK for employment, study, medical reasons or for more than six months should make an appointment to see the officer as they must have an entry certificate before travelling. For appointments, call at the British High Commission, 2nd floor, NIS Building between 8.30am and 12.30pm weekdays. For information, call 452-2484 between 8.30am and 4pm, weekdays.

Benefits to gain from St. Lucia Promotion in USA

    The St. Lucia Tourist Board has embarked on its Island Adventure Promotion in the US market. Those purchasing the Island Adventure Package from their travel agent in the US receive benefits such as a free night on a stay of four nights or longer, discounts from certain stores and restaurant, free adventure tours, and gift vouchers. The promotion runs until November 30. Last year, the promotion resulted in a 15 percent increase in visitor arrivals during the summer months.

Regional Women's Cricket: St. Lucia defends title in Dominica

    The St. Lucia Women's Cricket team will defend its title at the Caribbean Women's Cricket Competition held in Dominica, from July 15 till 24. The St. Lucia team boasts six players who have gained selection on the West Indies women's cricket team, including the captaincy (Verena Felicien). The other participants are Jamaica, Dominica and Trinidad and Tobago.

Folk Reserch Centre workshops for children

    July 26-August 7, Christine Samuel's Dance Centre, Chisel St., Castries: workshop 'Rhythms and movements' organised by the FRC for children aged 6 to 12. August 7: public performance. July 26-August 7, Folk Research Centre, Mt. Pleasant, Castries: theatre workshop for teenagers. Organisers: FRC, with Fish Alphonse, Louis Mc.Williams (of the Festival Centre of the Creative Arts of Trinidad) and Adrian Augier.

    October 2, Creole Heritage Month: public performance of the FRC teens theatre production.

Kids Summer Heritage Tours

    26 July onwards: St. Lucia National Trust takes children aged 10-14 years on Kids Summer Heritage Tours. For registration (until July 21): Castries: Central Library, weekdays, 12 noon till 2.30 pm; Soufriere: NCB and Soufriere Development Foundation during working hours. Vieux Fort: National Trust office Pointe Sable or CANARI office (upstairs Nova Scotia Bank), during working hours; Praslin: National Trust office.

Ting Walkathon

    Monday August 2, 7 a.m., walk from Vigie Field to Pigeon Point Landmark for individuals, teams, clubs, companies, schools and the disabled. Proceeds to benefit the National Council for the Disabled. Medals awarded to first three places in individual categories. Gift certificates for oldest and youngest participant. Win trips to Trinidad and Barbados. Registration before July 30 at Windward and Leeward Brewery offices.

    After the walk, at Pigeon Point Landmark: Power Brew Disco, 3 on 3 Ting basketball competition, Calypsonians in concert, with 1999 Calypso King and Les Enfants Dance Company.

Miss Caribbean Island Queen

    September, Castries: Miss Caribbean Island Queen show. Contestants from St. Lucia, Barbados, Trinidad, St. Maarten, Grenada and Tobago. St. Lucia is represented by Avrile Gilbert, Island Teen '95 and Island Queen '98.
