Magical Circus

    Throughout March: The Magical Circus. After breaking box-office records in Trinidad, Grenada and Barbados now at the Beach Facilities in Vigie, Castries. With lions and tigers, the flying trapeze, magicians, clowns, acrobats, contortionists, the pendulum, globe of death and the high wire. At Vigie for an extended run.


Sickle Cell Association

    Monday 20th March: Doctors Graham Serjeant and Winston Parris speak about latest developments in treatment of sickle cell disease and pain management with members of the public. Castries Town Hall, 7:00 pm.


International Francophonie Day

    Monday 20th March: International Francophonie Day. Activities in St. Lucia start Thursday 16th March. On the programme are a Francophonie breakfast, schools concert, evening of traditional (Creole) story-telling, Francophonie lunch, film broadcast and a sub-regional song contest among the Alliance Francaises of the OECS. Coordinated by the National Correspondence for the Francophonie, Mrs. Shery Alexander-Heinis.
     

French Singing Contest

    Tuesday 21st March: Sing to win five days in Paris with the Alliance Francaise's French Singing Contest. Registration fee $5.00. Wine & Cheese evening, members $15.00, non-members $20.00. For more info, please call 452-6602.


School of Music in Concert

    Thursday 23rd March: St. Lucia School of Music end-of-term students' concert. Venue: National Cultural Centre, 7:00 pm. Admission $10.00 adults, all children and SLSM students $5.00.


St. Lucia Folk Party

    Thursday 23rd March: 'St. Lucia in Concert - A Folk Party'. Show focussing on St. Lucia's indigenous celebrations and cultural seasons. Storytellers, Anba Goj bands (violin), Creole King and Queen, drummers, Afro-Caribbean dancers and characters of Christmas and New Year folklore. Venue: Indies Night Club, Rodney Bay, 7:30 pm. Artists association exposition

    Until April: Artists Association exposition at the Alliance Francaise at the Pyramid, Pointe Seraphin. Carifesta Committee will select work from this expo to represent St. Lucia at Carifesta 2000 in St. Kitts, later this year.


The Mission Awards

    1st April: Gospel Awards. Organised by Radio St. Lucia and Visual Domain Ltd. Venue: Castries Comprehensive School auditorium. Sixteen awards will be presented, ranging from 'soloist of the Year' to 'Band of the Year' and 'Gospel Musician of the Year'. Entry forms can be collected at Radio St. Lucia offices on the Morne. Deadline for submissions 15th March.


NIS celebrates 21 years

    April: 21st Anniversary of the National Insurance Scheme. With a church service, special health projects and publication of a special Anniversary Newsletter.


Business mission

    10th-16th April: Business mission to Antigua and Dominica. Organised by Chamber of Commerce, for all local entrepreneurs.


International Fabric Exhibition

    11-13 April: International Fabric Exhibition and Conference (IFFE) at Javis Centre, New York. One-stop shop for fabric sourcing and new trends. Construction Trade Fair in Havana

2000 Canadian Fine Food Show

    April 30 - 2nd May: 2000 Canadian Fine Food Show, Ontario, Canada. This year special attention for Ethnic Foods. Canada's national show for speciality retail and food service trade. Attracts 2600 buyers from across Canada and the USA. The Ministry invites manufacturers to participate. Contact Ms. Frederick at tel. 452-1706 or 468-4211, before 24th March.


Year 2000 Essay Competition

    Year 2000 essay competition for students aged 15-18. Organised by Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. $15,000 in prizes for schools and individual participants. Topic: "Even as they seek enforcement of the WTO ruling which could adversely affect the region's banana industry, the US is actively courting our assistance in their fight against drug trafficking and money laundering. What do you think our position should be?" Deadline for submission: 12th May, 2000.

Ms. Commonwealth Pageant

    5th May: Ms. Commonwealth Pageant. St. Lucian representatives between the ages of 17 and 25 can send their entries (photograph and short biography) to Commonwealth Committee, Box 1226, Castries, before 20th March. Organised by local fashion designer Gregory Lord. Contestants must have completed some form of tertiary education.


French Creole trans-island link-up

    21-23rd May: simultaneous trans-island video/audio link-up between St. Lucia, Martinique and Dominica: 'Duty of Remembrance/Trans-Islands'. Eighteen hours of advanced video conferencing, regional TV, radio and internet link-up.

    18th-25th June: Expo Caribe 2000 in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. Please contact the Ministry of Commerce, tel. 452-1706 or 452-1590.


Carifesta II: Caribbean Festival of Arts 2000

    Carifesta II, the seventh Caribbean Festival of Arts, in August 2000 will be held in St. Kitts & Nevis. All countries "washed by the Caribbean Sea" are invited to participate. Sponsored by UNESCO.
