Internet exposition at IT 2000

    The St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce Industry and Agriculture plans a week of activities in celebration of its 115th Anniversary. Among the planned activities is "IT 2000" a one-day expo organized in collaboration with Cable & Wireless. This event is geared towards focusing the business community's attention on the new technology directions that are emerging. The theme for the expo is "IT 2000 - We Are Ready". On the agenda for the  expo are three presentations, the topics being Y2K Readiness of St. Lucia, Internet Technology and Training and Business Solutions.
    IT 2000 takes place on Thursday, 2nd December at NIS Conference Room, 5th Floor, from 9:00 am. to 5:00 pm. The Chamber invites the members of the business community to attend this showcase so as to become more informed of the advances and directions of the local participants in the IT field.

Quadrille Festival

    28th November: Helen Folk Dancers' annual Quadrille Festival under the theme 'Preserving our Cultural Heritage'. Venue: Castries Comprehensive School, from 3:00 pm onwards. Admission $5.00
    5th December: Junior Helen Folk Dancers perform at the Monchy Combined School.


CTO Fundraiser Ball in Miami

    Saturday 19th February, 2000: Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Fundraiser Ball. Bringing together South Florida Caribbean community, CTO Allied Members, government officials, chapter members and friends at the Hyatt Hotel in downtown Miami. Featuring music from the Caribbean, delicious cuisine and a raffle/silent auction with a variety of items including Caribbean hotel stays and airfare, jewelry and Caribbean artwork.


Joseph Eugene's work at Snooty Agouti

    Throughout November: exposition of work by Joseph Eugene at Snooty Agouti in Rodney Bay, under the title: 'Life, an Explosion of Colours'.

Sisterhood, Boo, Third Eye in concert

    27th November: 'One': concert by what is described as "a growing family of the best musicians on the island|": Boo Hinkson, Third Eye, Allegro Pan Groove, Les Enfants and Sisterhood. National Cultural Centre.


Caribbean Collection '99: Fashion show

    27th November: Caribbean Collection '99: Caribbean fashion show organised by J's Modelling Agency. Venue: National Cultural Centre. Designers: John Warden of St. Kitts, Patric Cessin of Guadeloupe and Sylvia Calderbank of Germany/St. Lucia. Entertainment provided by Luther Francois and Nadine Roberts.


Award of Excellence for Dr. King

    27th November: Award of Excellence for Dr. Charles Owen King at formal dinner party at Indies under patronage of Governor-General dame Pearlette Louisy. Organised by Saint Lucia Medical and Dental Association.


Jaarbeurs '99 in Paramaribo

    23-28 November, International Trade Fair 'Jaarbeurs '99' in Dr. H.D. Benjamin Street, Paramaribo, Suriname. Trade fair targeting entrepreneurs, manufacturers, farmers, government institutions, service companies, im/exporters. St. Lucia Promotion in USA

    The St. Lucia Tourist Board has embarked on its Island Adventure Promotion in the US market. Those purchasing the Island Adventure Package from their travel agent in the US receive benefits such as a free night on a stay of four nights or longer, discounts from certain stores and restaurant, free adventure tours, and gift vouchers. The promotion runs until November 30. Last year, the promotion resulted in a 15 percent increase in visitor arrivals during the summer months.


Dance Theatre performances and workshop

    4th December: gala performance of the St. Lucia School of Ballet and Modern Dance. With performances from the At Marah Dance Theatre from Philadelphia, and students of the school. Venue: National Cultural Centre, 7.30 pm.
    5th December: At Marah Dance Theatre performs again.
    6th-10th December: 4-day workshop for all interested persons of eight years and older, by At Marah Dance Theatre group. Every day from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm. For more info, call: Thereasa Collymore, at 450-2400.


National Day Cycling

    13th December: National Day Cycling. Includes BMX and mountain bike races. Organised by St. Lucia Cycling Association.


US Consulate to partly close over Y2K period

    Consular section of the US Embassy in Barbados suspends Immigrant Visa services from 22nd December 1999 until 17th January 2000. Also suspends Non-Immigrant (visitor) visa services on 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 and 31st of December and on 3 and 4th of January 2000. Consulate remains open for American citizens throughout the Y2K period as usual.
    New is also that the US Consulate now closes every last working day of each month as far as Immigrant and non-Immigrant (visitors) visas are concerned.


Pappyshow Park 2000

    December 1999, and again in January 2000: Pappyshow Park 2000 - long-awaited political satire by members of The Factory.


Jamaica Jazz Festival

    20th-23rd January 2000: Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival, at James Bond Beach in Oracabessa, and Jamaica Grande Hotel at Ocho Rios. Featuring Gladys Knight, Mary J. Blige, Kool & The Gang, Kenny G and Al Jarreau.


Millennium Regatta 2000

    21st-23rd January 2000: Seventh annual Regatta, organised by St. Lucia Sailing Club.


Ste Lisi Par Excellence Awards

    6 February 2000: Ste Lisi Par Excellence Awards ceremony at National Cultural Centre.


Year 2000 Essay Competition

    Year 2000 essay competition for students aged 15-18. Organised by Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. $15,000 in prizes for schools and individual participants. Topic: "Even as they seek enforcement of the WTO ruling which could adversely affect the region's banana industry, the US is actively courting our assistance in their fight against drug trafficking and money laundering. What do you think our position should be?" Deadline for submission: 12th May, 2000.


Carifesta II: Caribbean Festival of Arts 2000

    Carifesta II, the seventh Caribbean Festival of Arts, in August 2000 will be held in St. Kitts & Nevis. All countries "washed by the Caribbean Sea" are invited to participate. Sponsored by UNESCO.
